5 Last Minute Halloween Ideas
/If like me Halloween is creeping up on you, (did you see what I did there!). Don’t worry if you feel unprepared. For us it seems to be a combination of a late half term and my two children being ill for what seems like the whole of September.
All this has knocked me off my normally organised schedule and here we are, Halloween is in 4 weeks!
So what can you do if you find yourself a little stuck for preparation? I’ve put together 5 Last Minute Halloween Ideas to help out if it all seems a bit of a headache!
1. Halloween Costumes
There are a large array of crazy, super scary and cute Halloween themed costumes on Amazon, who deliver the quickest of anyone I’ve found so far. I particularly love these below and they can be delivered the Same or Next day.
2. Halloween Food
Most supermarkets now offer next day delivery slots on food if you can’t get to them. Sainsbury’s I find offer the most choice with 1-hour delivery slots and they don’t often offer substitutions or miss-pick your items.
However, if you’re really stuck, things that go down well with kids which you may already have at home are:
Fish fingers dipped in ‘blood’ (tomato sauce).
Banana ghosts; which are bananas cut in half with chocolate chips as the eyes and open mouth.
Red apples or even apples dipped in melted chocolate.
Green pumpkin seeds or
Chocolate cupcakes
3. Trick or Treat
We rarely say trick! But if you would like to trick people a bowl of cold, cooked spaghetti with hidden sweets inside is always quick, easy and gooey! Children have to put their hands in and try and fish out a sweet if they can cope with the slimy spaghetti.
If you can’t buy a tub of Celebrations or sweets at a local shop then why not gather some of your children’s unused pens, erasers or other knick-knacks to give away as non-sweet treats? These are becoming more popular now due to allergies and those avoiding sugar. There is even a trend for children painting stones to give away instead of sweets.
You can also buy mixed bags of small toys from supermarkets or Amazon.
4. Pumpkins
Did you forget to book a pumpkin patch day? If so head to your local shop, supermarket or farmers market.
Even if you can’t find a pumpkin get creative. People are giving all sorts of vegetables new Halloween lives such as peppers, butternut squash and oranges.
Take a look at these cuties…
5. Halloween decorations
I have to say I bring out the same simple decorations every year. However, if you need them, the pound or dollar stores usually have a lot of stock even at the last minute.
If that’s not an option get your kids making paper chain spiders like these.
Or paper pumpkin lanterns.
Bats to stick on the wall with Blue Tack.
Hobbycraft has some great options as well if you have a store near to you.
I hope this has given you some quick ideas! We’ve managed a hedgehog pumpkin this year for the first time. It was a great use of all the broken branches from our apple tree!
If you want to turn some of your pumpkins into soup afterwards don’t carve them but draw on faces with black marker. We do this every year and then make all sorts of dishes from soups, bolognese, curries and even an adaption of a carrot cake!
What are you doing for Halloween this year?
Will you celebrate or stay in with the lights off? I’ve done both in the past so no judgement here!
