Christmas Slump Battle
/Keeping fit during the Christmas period is as tricky as it gets with the infamous ‘Christmas Slump’ giving challenge to be inconsistent with training.
Too many times we let the leftover food and the Christmas drinking detract us from staying on top of our body plan. It’s hard to say no too with work events, parties and even those Christmas excursions providing plenty of opportunities to delve into unusual foods and drink.
So how do you keep your clients motivated and on track through the Christmas slump and ensure your business does to suffer? You didn’t undertake a fitness instructor course to be beaten by the festivities, although post festivities can see a rise in numbers.
Be the Positive
Even though Christmas provides plenty of cheer, it also provides the beer. We all love it!
It is important to not be the Grinch on this Christmas but there is nothing wrong with discussing with your clients about their planned workout schedules during this time and their worries about keeping things up. It’s all about the balance and it’s widely known that the Christmas period brings about a lot of stress which leads to comfort food.
So what is most important other than droning on about working off the calories, you can focus on the feeling of the client’s mental state and provide insight to how exercise provides a healthy mindset. The importance of helping clients to release mood and self-esteem endorphins and increasing their energy. It will also help them with their insomnia patterns.
Incentivise the Time
Always the thought of winning something keeps your clients engaged and dutiful.
Think about ways to hold a Christmas competition from who keeps up the most classes to who maintains the good weight balance over the December period. By giving them a sense of drive to win the prizes from a spa/massage day to a free class could make them want to work harder to avoid the pitfalls.
Competition breeds motivation and a sense of goal. By giving clients an incentive, you will be surprised how many will push to be the winner of something free.
Christmas Guidance
Whilst working out over Christmas can be a slog, giving a fitness guide can be of huge help.
By providing your clients with a little extra help over the holidays with a plan that can be easily pinned on a fridge and remind them that they have a plan in place to stay healthy, which gives them a last minute reminder before plucking that extra piece of cheesecake from the fridge.
If those clients are heading away for Christmas on an excursion, give them a guide they can easily follow whilst relaxing that is not too much time taken up.
