5 Ways Wall Art Breathes Life into Your Home
/5 Ways Wall Art Breathes Life Into Your Home
We recently redecorated and since then I've found our minimalist walls a bit lacking! We love white or pale spaces as it brings in so much light but you do need that extra something to breathe life into your home.
I didn't want to just buy a group of 'nice' pictures as I think for it to feel right, the wall art needs to represent a bit of you. If you choose carefully you can find things that have a meaning and make you happy each time you pass them. A trip you went on, a phrase your partner is always saying or an affirmation that you know will be helpful to look at each day.
A friend recommended I try Desenio, a Scandinavian company selling an extensive range of wall art and frames. Apart from having such an incredible selection of beautiful prints that you get a a bit lost in each category! The thing I quickly loved about Desenio is that they make your life easy. Every picture has a selection of frames in each of the sizes you might need. This takes away one of the most painful and time consuming parts of buying pictures.
So how do you go about choosing the perfect piece to brighten your walls?
1. Memories
Where was the city break that most felt like home? Where are you desperate to travel to, where do you want to return? Or simply where is your home city and do you adore it's landmarks?
I chose a print of Venice as this holds very special memories for us. I'm English and my Husband is Italian. After our wedding we went on an amazing trip to Venice for their Carnival. It was one of the most exhilarating trips I've been on, especially due to the festival taking place. I remember running through the streets in our masks and costumes trying to get to our water taxi in time.
Desenio have a great selection of city photographs and maps, it's difficult not to find 'Your' place.
2. Surprise
One of the things I love with interiors is creating a space or finding that perfect item which makes your visitors intrigued. That moment when you're in someone's house and you are captivated by a beautiful photo. You just have to tell the person how much you loved it and get the story behind it.
These Black and White photographs are just like this. You can want to linger on them a little longer. They are slightly eerie and draw you in. They also make you stop even in your own home and in amongst the chaos of your day, take a moment. So hang these in places where you might pause or where you want to create intrigue!
3. Motivation
Is there an area of your home where you work, exercise, or just want to create a space that is more mindful? Sometimes it helps to have somewhere that feels ours, where everything is speaking to us and helping us towards that goal, whatever it may be.
Since having children I have begun to work from home and at first I never had that 'ME' space. It was very hard to work in what felt like a mix of everyone else's things. Now I have my own desk, finally! And I have a little gallery wall behind it. It frames where I work as mine. I feel much more motivated to go there and am more productive because it feels like my area with my message. It's amazing what a print and a desk can do!
Think about where in your home you need this, or even for your partner or children. Which prints would frame that space for each of you and make it feel your own?
4. Nature
We all know nature is a great healer but we can't always have access to it right away. Bedrooms and cosy living areas look wonderful with nature prints. They encourage a feeling of relaxation, of simplicity and escape.
There's a wealth of intricate prints on Desenio, from the beautiful structures of plants to landscape photos of vast lakes and forests filled with fine mists. The affect is quite breathtaking.
They create an immediate calm in the house and change the mood completely.
5. Humour
Lastly we all need a little humour in our lives! A sweet message that you pass in the hall that makes you smile. Something you always hear yourself say, or a famous quote that you remember by heart.
I loved this pasta print for our kitchen. Mainly because being married to an Italian I can honestly say that apart from our family, the thing that makes my Husband happy is pasta! I suspect most Italians would agree!
