Working From Home? Here's How to Brighten up Your Workspace!

If COVID-19 has meant you had to work from home, it will undoubtedly have felt like a shock to the system, considering you were used to working from an office somewhere. While lockdown restrictions are now lifting in the UK, you might still need to work from home.

Of course, you may have decided that you prefer to work from home, or your boss has asked if you’d like to spend most of your time doing that and only going to the office a few times a month.

You’re likely reading this today because you feel that you need to customise your home workspace and perhaps make it a bit more separate from the rest of your home. With that in mind, check out these top tips to help you brighten up your home office space:

Get Some Fresh Flowers

The first thing you need to do is get some fresh flowers for your workspace. There are many benefits to flowers; for example, they brighten up the area and help lift your mood. That’s something which can be useful if you look out the window at cloud and rain most of the time.

You don’t even need to pop out and buy flowers for your workspace. That’s because you can order some online and get a flower delivery straight to your door. You could even arrange for weekly floral deliveries!

Upgrade Your Lighting

It’s no secret that the weather is now improving, and everyone can soon bask in the sunshine each day. However, there will be days where it looks pretty grey and gloomy outside, and you’ll need to put your lights on to do your work.

It makes sense to ensure your workspace has plenty of natural light flooding in - even if it is grey and miserable outside. Another option is to upgrade your lighting by investing in some “daylight” LED bulbs for your room’s light fittings.

The cost of LED bulbs has come down considerably in recent years, and you can get daylight LED bulbs for almost any standard light fitting in your home.

Surround Yourself With Plants

Have you ever noticed that, in some commercial environments, there are lots of indoor plants in each office? That’s because plants improve indoor air quality, they look great, and they can even help reduce stress.

You just need to make sure you water the plants regularly and ensure they get some natural light each day. Other than that, plants are pretty low-maintenance items to have that will help brighten up your home workspace.

Examples of plants you might want for your working environment include aloe, lemon balm, bamboo palm, cactus, and spider plants. Don’t worry; the latter doesn’t actually contain spiders!

Buy a Desk Lamp

Finally, investing in a desk lamp (ideally one with a daytime LED bulb) can significantly enhance your workspace. It’ll help lift your mood, especially if you feel you suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Plus, a desk lamp is practical if you need plenty of lighting for studying things or completing intricate tasks at your workstation.
