The Best Eco Friendly Standing Desk for Office or Home

Disclosure: Flexispot kindly offered me a desk in order to review their product. However, all opinions are 100% my own.

A few years ago my husband came home boasting about his employer changing his old desk to a new standing one. Every day he came home thrilled that he was actively addressing his previously sedentary lifestyle and feeling so much better.

Buying a new desk seems a small change but more and more of us are spending too much time sitting down and putting pressure on our lower back, posture or causing neck pain.

We've all heard of finding the right office chairs but what if there is another way to be healthier whilst working?

As someone who has been self-employed for five years and works from home, I know how easily I slip into the wrong seating position.

I've wanted to try one of the new electric standing desks for some time so I was delighted when Flexispot kindly asked if I would like to review their EG8 desk product.

Should you be wondering if having the chance to stand is a better option and may help your poor posture I can confirm it makes a huge difference.

Here's how I've found the Flexispot height adjustable desk and why I think it's one of the best standing desks you can choose.

High quality

When the desk arrived I promptly passed it on to the chief builder in the house, my husband! He always moans about the things I order but surprisingly told me this was the easiest thing he's ever had to build. Not only that, the instructions actually make sense. It was so simple to put together and looks wonderful the minute you unpack it.

The desk comes in two well-protected packages, one for the frame and another for the desktop.

It took less than half an hour to put together which is brilliant compared with other furniture. The product is really intuitive despite the electrical components and has a durable steel frame.

I love how it looks, the desktop is finished in modern tempered glass and is available in white or black. It has rounded edges for safety, which is perfect if you have children around. It also has an embedded drawer which I wasn't expecting and is very useful.

How it works

Once assembled the desk has a mains plug and is controlled by a small control panel next to the desktop.

You can adjust the working area to different heights depending if you are standing, sitting or using it for a video call.

It's strong enough to place your arms on the desk even when at a standing height.

If you'd rather not keep adjusting the height there are four programmes so you can set the heights for your different sizes of use.

I've found it a very adjustable standing desk for home life admin, working around children and when I have time to work uninterrupted.

Benefits of a modern standing desk

A great thing and one of the most noticeable so far is that I don't get fatigued halfway through the day from being stuck in the same sedentary position. I feel more energetic and less achy.

The health benefits for me have been less back pain. As you are more active, you improve your posture, standing burns more calories and can help keep your circulation going.

Sitting for long periods every day can put you at risk of diabetes, heart disease and many other unpleasant side effects we would all rather avoid.

Apart from the obvious benefit to your health the Flexispot EG8 has a desktop measuring 120cm L, 60cm D, which is the right size for most office areas and fits well into a small space.

Another brilliant feature is that there are USB ports in the control panel level with the desktop. So you can charge any devices from the desk. There are USB A and C ports which are useful for different phone types.

Eco-friendly standing desks

Most of us making new purchases are now considering the environmental impact of what we buy.

With a larger item such as a home office desk, how can you be sure you are thinking about green living as well?

Luckily the Flexispot desk is made from steel and glass. Both of which are strong and widely recyclable. They also last longer than other materials so you won't need to replace the item for some time.

The amount of electricity they use is very small as usually you get your desk into position and leave it there whilst you're working. Unplug your desk at the end of the day and it also is not using any energy being on standby.

The firm Flexispot takes its social responsibilities very seriously. They are a strong advocate of “green and clean” and take all initiatives to fulfil their corporate social responsibilities. They strive to produce eco-friendly and sustainable products that reduce the carbon emissions on the environment.

They are also trying to help communities in any way they can. In line with these goals, FlexiSpot distributed 100k masks during 2020 to help mitigate the risks of the spread of COVID-19 and play its part in promoting a healthy community. They also gave away both face masks and protective coveralls to Kaiser Alameda Hospital (Kaiser San Leandro & Fremont).

How much and where to buy

The EG8 Comhar Adjustable Desk which I tried costs £469.99 with a white desktop, and with a black one would cost £449.99. They currently have a sale, so you get a £100 discount until 1st June. They offer free shipping with all purchases.

Overall I’m delighted with the desk. It’s made a real difference already and I love using it. My only issue will be keeping my husband from taking it for his work from home days!
