Most Captivating Bridges Across Scandinavia
/While many praise Scandinavia for being the perfect location to admire the natural beauty, there are also a number of impressive architectural pieces scattered all across! However, this time we are not talking about the remarkable castles, historical centers, or anything like that. Instead, if you like a picturesque cityscape and stunning scenery, you might want to visit some of the most beautiful bridges across Scandinavia. So, let’s get into it!
Oresund Bridge
At number one, we have the most famous architectural masterpiece in all of Scandinavia. The railway and motorway bridge serves as a link between Denmark and Sweden, one you can cross with the Copenhagen to Malmo train.
It is the longest and the most impressive road and rail bridge in Europe and a must-visit when exploring Scandinavia. Crossing Oresund takes about 10 minutes, and keep in mind that it is not open to pedestrians!
The Svinesund Bridge
Scandinavians simply love creating as many links in-between the countries as possible! While there are numerous gorgeous crossings in the cities themselves, the Svinesund Bridge is yet another link between two countries, only this time it is Norway and Sweden.
The Bridge was opened in the 1940s, blessed and appointed by the Norwegian Kind and Sweden Crown Prince. You might as well say the bridge is royal! The traffic is quite heavy here, but we still suggest you cross the bridge or even admire it from afar. The steel projection and the imposing arch is a sight to see!
The High-Cost Bridge
The High-Cost Bridge, otherwise known as Hoga Kusten Bridge in Scandinavia, is one of the most beautiful and most prominent of bridges in northern Sweden. It holds many titles of excellence, not to mention its gorgeous architecture. As of 2016, it is the third-longest suspension bridge in Scandinavia, the fourth-longest in Europe, and the 21st-longest in the world.
The High-Cost Bridge is a must-see for all travelers who enjoy architecture and intricate design. The column pillars are the most imposing parts of the bridge and look very fitting with the whole cityscape.
Oland Bridge
This road bridge connecting Kalmar on mainland Sweden and Farjestaden on the island of Oland, is one of the most famous bridges in Scandinavia, and you have probably heard about it as well.
For one, it is one of the longest ones in Europe and has a clear signature mark that is the hump at its western end. It has always jokingly been compared to Oresund Bridge in terms of length, architecture, traffic, and else. However, while Oresund is longer and is considered more significant since connecting Denmark and Sweden, Oland Bridge is the winner of being the longest entirely in the Swedish territory.
But why not compare it yourself? Visit both Oresund and Oland Bridges and see which one is more appealing or more impressive! You can only read so much!
Storstrom Bridge
Last but not least, let’s explore the bridge with probably the most Scandinavian name! The lovely Storstrom is a road and railway arch bridge lying between the Falster and Masnedo islands in Denmark.
The bridge was actually designed and built by Danish State Railways, making quick travel a natural priority. Initially, the designers wanted a double-tracked railway, three steel-arch spans, and concrete deck arch approach spans. Storstrom is the perfect example of the genius Danish mind, and they have a lot of plans for the bridge in the future. Like electrifying it and converting the tracks to increase traffic. Do not miss out on this gorgeous, innovative crossing once you are in Denmark!
Remember to include the bridges in your Scandinavian or Eurotrip! Not only are they beautiful to look at, but they are highly comfortable and useful, especially while crossing between countries. Get your camera ready and enjoy!
