Is It Okay To Have A Colored Diamond Engagement Ring?

You might be thinking that colored diamond engagement rings aren’t that common, and while in some cases that’s true, nowadays it's beginning to grow in popularity to have them rather than regular diamond rings.

Not only do they hold a fancy color, but strong gemstones that have a vivid and high grade, make them last longer than your average diamond, with color never really fading.

Some people argue that colorless diamonds are better for engagement rings, and in some cases, if you’re wanting to be traditional, it is. Ultimately it doesn't matter, however, as long as your partner likes the ring itself, and even then, it’s about the love you both share, not the ring.

However, If you’re looking to turn heads in a positive and attractive way, then having a colored diamond engagement ring is definitely something that you’re wanting. The best part about that is there are so many different colors to choose from, like from Astteria, that no matter what you choose it’ll still be beautiful in both color and gem quality.

Are Colored Diamond Engagement Rings More Expensive?

Budget can be difficult when it comes to getting the right engagement ring for you and your spouse, especially when you want to get the perfect ring, colored or not. Knowing the average price of colored diamond engagement rings can definitely help you with your decision.

Choosing the perfect ring for your partner can be really difficult when the budget is a bit tight. You can always widen your options with vintage engagement rings and brand-new engagement rings to see where your budget can reach to.

Every diamond is graded differently depending on its cut, clarity, and carat, so not all diamonds are going to be the same price, even when they are looking the same as another.

Higher prices do often appeal more to buyers though, as they are higher quality diamonds with longer life spans and durability. This also depends on their rarity

Say you were to want a red diamond engagement ring, there are only about 30 of them in the world currently because of how rare they are, and how they’re formed still isn’t properly known to this day.

One of the best parts about them is they absolutely hold their value, and there are a lot of different colored diamonds to choose from. Here are a couple of examples of what color they’re able to come in and their prices:

  • Yellow diamonds: $3,000 - $5,000 per carat

  • Orange diamonds: $ 16,084 in total and above (no specific price per carat)

  • Brown diamonds: $2,500 per carat

  • Green diamonds: $50,000 - $100,000 per carat

  • Blue diamonds: $6,800 - $11,200 per carat

  • Pink diamonds: $30,000 - $100,000 per carat

  • Red diamonds: Over $1 million per carat

As you can see prices do vary on diamonds, and it's important to factor in that they’re not all going to be similar or the same price, from carat, clarity, cut, and color gradient. Be sure to understand your price range before coming to a final verdict.

What Colored Diamond Engagement Ring Shines The Most?

If you’re looking into having the most sparkly and shiny type of diamond in town, then unfortunately colored diamonds don't do too much justice in that department. The shiniest you’re going to get would be with a D-color diamond, which is a reflected white light, colorless diamond.

The more color that a diamond has, means it's, unfortunately, less likely to reflect the light, which means little to no sparkle that you’re wanting. A good substitute for this, however, is if you get a colored diamond with a sort of faded color, like a G to M color grade scale, then you’re more likely to get at least a little bit of sparkle.

The only problem with that solution is if you’re the kind of person who doesn't like faded-looking diamonds, and wants a strong rich-colored-looking diamond, then you won't be able to get the shine that you want.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of different colored diamond engagement rings to choose from, with a variety of qualities and prices. It's ultimately up to you with what you choose, and whether you want to have a non-colored but sparkly diamond or a colored one that’s not so shiny, as long as you and your spouse are happy.
