7 Best Outdoor Gifts for Boys
/Disclosure: AD, this is a sponsored post, however all opinions are 100% my own.
We have a big birthday coming up in Spring. Our boy is turning 10! With this in mind, I'm on the hunt for a great gift for older kids. This is a tricky age to buy for as they aren't young children anymore but also haven't hit the teenager stage!
Both of my children are really outdoorsy kids and as getting outside is so good for their development and mental health, I've gathered a selection of outdoor games and the best outdoor toys to delight your birthday boy.
I love using Wicked Uncle for the perfect gift idea. The site has a tool to select gifts by age, which is so useful, especially when buying for school friends. This brings up a list of gifts to help you choose for adventurous kids, crafters, younger children and even books and games.
If you're looking for a fun way to get your big kids outside this Spring, check out our list of the Best Outdoor Gifts for Boys.
Smart Ball
If like us you have inadvertently become a football family! This is a great way to keep your little footballer happy.
A smart football works by counting your 'Keepy Uppy' score up to 100. Lighting up with every touch it's so much fun and can be used as a challenge with their friends as the speaker in the ball will call out your score!
When they would like to use it as a normal football the sensor can be easily removed creating two toys in one.
With the added bonus of being portable, this gift can be taken away on road trips with the entire family for an impromptu fun game.

UltraIight Airplanes
Does your child like to construct and build things as a fun challenge?
If so these amazing flying gliders can keep them occupied on a rainy day and then when the weather improves they can head out for some fresh air and fly their creations!
There are five different airplanes to build with ultralight plastic and sturdy wood from bamboo.
These practical gifts come with a detailed instruction booklet, so your pre teen boys can use their imaginations and build different types of planes with varying wing configurations.
A Frisbee Only Better
Sometimes the perfect game is the simplest! Waboba Wingman Wingman is a soft silicone, flying disc that can actually fold up and has an amazing way to fit right into your pocket!
Your tweens will have a great time playing with this brilliant disc and improving their hand-eye coordination. It is specially made to fly straight and over longer distances. This suits older children as there is more challenge to the game than with a conventional frisbee.
It's a good option as it can be carried anywhere, is easy to fold and automatically pops back into shape when removed from your pocket or bag.
We love these new outdoor toys which will encourage active play and take no time at all to grab from your backpack and start using it at the park or on holiday.
Instant Table Tennis
If your child likes a competitive game, how about another play anywhere toy?
The set is a great adaptation to the usual table tennis as you can play the game on virtually any tabletop.
This is possible due to the retractable net which can be fixed to any table up to 75 inches wide and 1.75 inches thick. I know this would be so popular with my household and it can be used with little kids as well so the whole family can take part.
Another compact toy which is easy to take with you anywhere. It comes with two bats and two balls so you don't need to buy these separately.
Wind Power Experiment Kit
Speaking of windy days. Should your child be a budding scientist or inventor this Wind Power 5 Experiment Kit will keep them busy indoors and out!
They will be able to build their own wind turbine, plus conduct five different fun experiments depending on what they would like to do that day.
My son has a real passion for the environment and would love to use this and think about how we can create renewable energy.
Don't worry about complicated instructions, there are simple guides to help your child assemble their own 3-foot wind turbine themselves.
Apart from seeing it in action outside on a windy day, children can also use it to charge batteries and carry out 5 cool experiments. They will be guided on how to do this and shown the differences when optimising the blade angles and exploring wind speeds.
If that's not enough they can even build their own electric car model from the same kit. A really great gift with lots of added value!
Jumbo Octopus Kite
Kites are always great outdoorsy gift ideas. This one can be used for all ages with supervision. It's an extra-large kite at 4 metres in length. It is very colourful to appeal to children and shaped like an octopus!
Made especially to fly well, unlike our DIY efforts at home during lockdown! This toy has long rainbow tentacles and is the perfect way to gather everyone together on a windy day.
It also comes with a handy storage bag and a sturdy handle.
For DIY Enthusiasts or Little Helpers
Does anyone else have a child who follows you around the minute you get the toolbox out?
We have two of these little helpers and it's not always easy to keep them entertained when they don't have full access to the tools!
The Kelvin has 23 tool functions and is a pocket-sized, multi-tasking all in one super gadget. A little, lightweight kit that contains all the main items you'll need for everyday jobs.
These include a 16-piece snap-action screwdriver, spirit level and 6ft/1.8m tape measure. There are also all the tools kids love such as a magnet, LED torch and even a surface to do some important hammering!
A brilliant present idea, a toolbox in the palm of their hand. We would still recommend children use these with supervision.
Lastly, my final tip would be not to overlook simple present ideas we loved as children ourselves. The attraction of these is still great despite living in times of the video games and electric scooters.
From my experience good quality walkie talkies, personalised water bottles, a pogo stick and a swing set are still fun outdoor toys. Anything which gets them out into the natural world and lets little hands try something new.
I hope this has given you lots of inspiration for birthday gifts for outdoorsy kids. If you have a suggestion, please share below!
