4 Reasons You Should Learn to Drive

Most people learn to drive when they are in their teens. As soon as they reach the legal age, they can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a vehicle and hit the open road. They feel like it makes them a source of envy amongst their friends and gives them some much-needed independence from their parents.

But perhaps you never learned back in school when all your friends and classmates were getting brand new cars. Maybe you knew enough people with their own set of wheels that you never felt the need, or maybe you couldn’t afford the driving lessons. Whatever your reasons, it’s never too late in life to learn. There is no maximum age limit for taking your test, and there are so many ways it could benefit your life.

Convenience

Although relying on public transport and lifts from your friends might be cheaper and more eco-friendly, it doesn’t give you much freedom. Buses are often delayed and you have to follow their schedule, while even the best friend ever can be unreliable sometimes.

Having your own car means you can go out any time of day or night, and travel anywhere you like. There are no restrictions on what you can do, and it can save you a lot of time and effort.

Career

Depending on what you do for work, there may be times when it is beneficial to be a driver. Perhaps your boss gives you the opportunity to travel to an exciting business event on expenses using the company car. Or maybe you find your dream job, but the office isn't easily accessible through public transport.

Many jobs do specify a full driving license as an essential requirement, and having a car can open up many doors for you professionally. It doesn't restrict you to working within a certain distance of your home or a bus stop, and it allows you to apply for jobs you would otherwise be unqualified for. If you need a source of side income, you can also find delivery work or become an Uber driver for a bit of extra cash.

Independence

Even if your partner and your friends don’t mind giving you lifts all the time, it’s hard not to feel bad. When you have your own car, you no longer need to be dependent on other people and you can do whatever you like. You can travel anywhere without feeling like you need to justify it or pay someone back.

Social relationships

Driving is a great boon to your social relationships, as it means you can visit your friends and family much more easily. Feel like saying hi to your elderly parents on a Saturday morning? Just hop in the car and drop by. You can pick your kids up from school, take your partner to work, and use the journey for some quality bonding time with your loved ones.
