Five kitchen gadgets for a pizza cook

From your own uniquely creative toppings to crust just the way you like it, homemade pizza offers endless possibilities — and having the right tools for the job can be just the thing to take your pizza from “so-so” to “squisito.”

If pizza night in your house means dough, not delivery, check out these great gadgets for pizza cooks.

A Stand Mixer

A quality stand mixer makes mixing up pizza dough a snap— pretty soon you’ll be wondering why you ever did it by hand.

KitchenAid makes a range of mixers that are favorites of many avid home cooks. Make sure you use a dough recipe that’s developed for a mixer. If you need a more purse-friendly option we love Salter as a brand for kitchen equipment.

You can also make great pizza dough in a bread machine. Look in the manual for “dough” directions.

A Pizza Pan

Deep-dish pizza lovers are a breed apart. You know who you are! If deep-dish pizza is your passion, you need the right pan to get the thick, gooey results you’re looking for.

These are actually really useful trays to have for all sorts of quick cook dishes and great for playdates as you can cook several kiddie sized snacks at the same time.

I have these ones from Amazon, and they do exact what you need.

A Pizza Stone

A pizza stone preheated in the oven or on the grill gives a perfectly crispy crust. It’s about as close as you can get to pizza-oven results without installing a pizza oven.

This glazed stone from VonShef won’t scratch or mark when you cut your pizza.  You’ll want a pizza peel or paddle to get your pizza into and out of the oven.

Some pizza cooks recommend using a wooden peel dusted with cornmeal to top your pizza and slide it onto the stone, and a steel peel to remove it from the oven.

Pizza Scissors

If you’ve worried about scratching your pizza stone or pan, try using pizza scissors to cut your pizza instead of a knife or wheel. Scissors cut through pizza toppings more cleanly than a wheel can, and it’s easy to cut just the right size piece.

Using pizza scissors has been a game changer for me, especially at kids parties when there’s so many little ones to serve.

A Pizza Oven Kit

For the home pizza cook who’s ready to go beyond gadgets and make the investment in perfect pizza, there are many garden or worktop style pizza oven kits on the market now.

This option isn’t for the feint of heart or the small of budget, but if you dream of turning out truly amazing wood-fired Neapolitan pizza in your own backyard, it’s worth the effort.

Our absoloute favourite is Ooni, who offer wood fired, gas and multi fuel options. The ovens are portable and can be used on your patio or in the kitchen. They give a real wow factor, so if you love entertaining these are for you!

Should the price point be a bit too much there are other options now such as Big Horn Outdoors which use wood and VonHaus which are for charcoal or gas. We haven’t tried these so do some research before you buy.

We hope this guide to Kitchen Tools for your Pizza Chef is useful. Save it for gift ideas or treat yourself to a pizza night and grab one of these gadgets!
