Bringing Italy Home: Stunning Travel Photo Wall Ideas Featuring Framed Pictures

AD: This week I’m working alongside MyPicture.co.uk to share their wonderful framed photos and canvas prints. All opinions are 100% my own.

After a holiday in Italy is your phone full to the brim with amazing family photos? If so, you are not alone! I can't stop myself from taking a picture of one more gorgeous door! Italy is full of beauty, from the vibrant streets of Rome to the serene landscapes of Tuscany.

For those of us who want to showcase these when we get home, how do you take them from your memories (mental and phone!) and transport them to your walls looking like a stunning framed picture

Sometimes we have an idea of how things could look but it's hard to bring it all together. Luckily we found My-picture.co.uk who offer the perfect way - and it's very easy - to display your photo wall prints so you can personalise the art in your home. Not only can you share your incredible travel memories with others but they will give you joy every time you pass them in a unique gallery wall or a cosy family room.

Curate your collection

By this we mean think about the areas in your home which need wall art. Maybe you have a blank wall in the living room and you don't know how to enhance it. Once you know you have, for example; three areas which need some sort of photo gallery, start by going through your family photographs.

Have a look at your best moments from your travels in Italy. The pictures which make you smile, or resonate with you the most. These could also be nature photos, landscapes or architectural marvels. Things you've wanted to visit for a long time and it finally came true! Or intimate street scenes with your kids playing football and eating ice cream.

We have several areas in our home with personal travel photos. We've grouped these as our wedding day and the lead up to it, this was beside Lake Como. Wedding photos work well as bedroom wall art ideas. You can choose a classic look with black & white images. Or hang photos from across the celebration covering the whole wall in matching frames.

We also have pictures of our summer holidays in the mountains, all the outdoorsy activities we get up to and the great views. Lastly we have an area in our upstairs hall with maps and quirky items we loved, candid shots and fun moments.

Choose the Right Framing

Once you have your fondest memories grouped together, consider how you might frame them. Would they look best as canvas prints? Will they be placed on a picture ledge or hung traditionally on the wall?

The right frame can elevate your favourite photos, making them jump out at you and it's hard not to pause and take in those captures.

Excellent ways of trying this are with the monochromatic wall frame in classic black or white. This will be timeless and also suits any future decor style changes. It's a simple way to make sure your prints always stand out.

For a more rustic feel, wooden frames suit homes filled with different shades of neutrals and natural hues. They work well if you have photos with lots of landscapes and countryside. Boosting the organic nature of your prints in a creative way. Different sizes and shades of wood look beautiful on a dining room wall and bring warmth to the space.

If you're confident with colour and new products then try something more adventurous such as acrylic glass prints, aluminum or collages on canvas. These are obvious choices for your largest piece of work as it helps them stand out. It can also work well in a personal space like a study or in a stairwell. If you display art in larger sizes, consider placing it as one item on an entire wall and where there are high ceilings. Make sure the wall colour scheme doesn't overshadow the piece.

Create a Themed Photo Wall

Bringing it all together at the end is always a bit nerve wracking! Once you’ve selected and framed your prints, the next stage is to think about how to arrange them.

A themed photo wall can tell a story or create a visual journey through your Italian adventures. As we mentioned above it can be easier to arrange these around a location or grouping photos from when your children were different ages. When they were tiny, the school years and what we are heading into now the tween/teen era!

To keep it simple, each group should make sense to you and have some meaning. Something that all the family connect with when they look at them.

Making a photo wall is a great way to create a focal point in a room. Having your own pictures all in the same size frame in a simple grid works well, is easy to hang and has a designer look.

The feature wall or gallery wall ideas are very on trend right now and it's hard to resist having a go yourself!

After grouping your pictures by theme, lay them on the floor in front of the wall where they will be displayed. Move them around based on colour palettes, size and which make for an aesthetically pleasing arrangement to you!

Another way to add some personality is to incorporate other elements like maps, vintage postcards, ceramic tiles, or in our case a tea towel with Italian valleys which is hung in our kitchen!

Use Your Prints as Conversation Starters

Adding your personal style, or your family's quirks to your framed prints shows they are not just decor; they can spark conversations.

Each photo will have a story and not only will they make your household happy, they invite your guests to engage with your memories and get to know you better.

Framing and showcasing wall hangings from your Italian travels not only allows you to share your experiences but also inspires others to have a little Dolce Vita adventure of their own.

Being brave you can create a stunning photo wall that resonates with all your family more than any formal modern art painting would. Once you get started you will find it easier than expected. It’s also quite addictive as you’ll find so many perfect moments you will want to feature them all.
