Best dresses to wear in winter 2022
Disclosure: AD, this is a sponsored post, however all opinions are 100% my own.
During the colder months, it's a little bit harder to spruce up your winter wardrobe. Any cold weather has us reaching for a winter coat and black tights to get that extra warmth! But what can you do to create a cute winter outfit without resorting to the usual jeans and tall boots?
We love versatile winter dresses for women and there's no reason why you can't incorporate one of these into your daily routine even at this time of year. These can be great for work, special occasions, a meal out with friends and even a date night.
Get inspired by our selection and find out the best way to feel great despite the chilly weather!
High Necked Dresses
A sophisticated option to keep warm and create a sleek silhouette is to wear long dresses and high necks. We love this style in velvet which comes with a rust or black turtleneck from women’s clothing boutique Forever Unique. It can easily go from day to night and would look great paired with an extra layer such as a leather jacket for day wear or a faux fur coat in the evening.
Long Skirts
If you want to achieve a modest and elegant look, long skirts for women are the best option. They can be paired with chunky knit sweaters or fitted turtlenecks to keep you comfortable and stylish.
Look for long skirts made of materials like lines or cotton for a comfortable feel. Opt for darker colors or subtle prints to keep the look sophisticated. Pair with ankle boots or knee-high boots for a chic winter ensemble perfect for work and casual outings.
Office wear
I used to love wearing dresses for work, the best part is that they are one whole outfit and you don't need to decide which separates, such as a skirt and top, go together. I now have a large collection of these as it's so easy to throw on a dress and you're ready to go.
This pretty turquoise, long-sleeved, ruched, midi dress is perfect for day wear. Elegant and serious enough for the office. It looks professional but not traditional. It's also a lovely way to transition to evening just by adding some heeled, winter boots.
Another practical option for work is long sleeves with a flowing mid-length dress. You can find these with geometric prints or a fun take on leopard print. Wear them dressed down with trainers and a trench coat for the office or even to feel good while you work from home and need to look smart on your video calls.
If you prefer something a bit more formal, a jacket dress is a tailored style blazer the length of a dress. These can have extra detailing such as exaggerated shoulders and gold buttons, or big wrap belts. In black, they are particularly elegant and look just as wonderful styled with flats or heels.
Shirt dresses
The classic shirtdress is always in fashion with slightly differing styles heading on to the catwalk year after year. This bright cotton number will take you from winter through into spring and has pretty gathered details around the bust. The modest split in the front means it can be worn for any occasion and the puffed sleeves show the quality workmanship behind the product.
If you prefer a dress with more intricate stitching look out for fun, frilly hems and ruched waists to add that extra level of interest. This style can be worn for day or night but would make a lovely casual date dress for cinema or a walk after a pub lunch.
Showstoppers
For a day or evening celebration, however big or small, you can't go wrong with a stunning dress. Not only does it make you feel confident all evening, but it's nice to be able to dress up properly with all the sparkles and glitz! So what should you pick this time of year?
You can't go wrong with a little black dress but there are some more unusual styles of these now so you don't look like an 80's Bond girl! (although I'd be happy with that!).
An example of this, is a smock, volume sleeve, dress with feathery tulle hem! Not only does it look absolutely gorgeous but the smock skims your curves and has wonderful movement as you walk. This might be my favourite dress of 2022!
Lastly, a Valentine's night contender! This red, jersey, mini dress is showstopping and one for our wishlist! Yes, it's short and shows off your beautiful legs but it's balanced - and you're kept warm - by the long sleeves and higher neck. The draped long sash is sexy and elevates it to a classy, intriguing outfit that will be used time and time again.
I hope you found inspiration in our styling of the perfect winter essential! It doesn't have to be all knee boots and sweater dresses, the good news is in 2022 there is plenty of choice. So before the warmer months arrive pair dresses with your favourite separates and get out of those jeans!
