How to Re-use your moving blanket

Protecting Stored Items

The most obvious use of moving blankets is for storing items. Generally you need at least queen size weighted blankets, in order for them to wrap around your treasured possessions. Moving blankets come in a range of thicknesses that make them ideal for wrapping up a number of items that can be stored in a garage, loft or cupboard. This helps to reduce the risk of damage to valuable or irreplaceable items.

Soundproofing

The thickness of moving blankets mean that they are idea for providing soundproofing capabilities in a room. This can range from padding the inside of a kick drum to reduce reverberance and volume, a common problem to musicians, to soundproofing a room itself in order to record that next podcast hit or provide a perfect vocal booth for that first number one vocal hit.

Protecting Cars

Vehicles take a lot of punishment, particularly on the seats or in the trunk. A moving blanket in the trunk or on the seat can go a long way to protecting the car from damage, whether from the misadventures of children and spilt food and drink, or pet hairs. This can reduce cleaning and valeting costs and help maintain the value of the vehicle.

Keeping Warm

A moving blanket can also provide an extra layer of warmth on a cold night. Whether you are trying to keep warm during an outside event, looking for warmth huddled up on the sofa during a binge watch, or as a blanket on the bed to help keep heat in and the cold out, a moving blanket will do the trick.

Camping

Moving blankets can provide a range of services when camping. One such use is a simple rug laid out on the grass to protect from the harshness of the ground, particularly if it is a thick blanket. A moving blanket can also provide warmth as a rug on the inside of a tent.

Sleeping Bag Padding

Carrying on with the camping theme, a moving blanket can provide much needed replacement padding to an old sleeping bag that has lost its fluff or warmth. All that is needed are sewing skills and a bit of time.

Redecoration Protection

It is not uncommon that after the moving blankets have been used for moving house, that some redecoration of the property is needed. Such a blanket provides ideal protection from paint and other spills. Covering furniture or valuable items can prevent them becoming damaged during the redecoration process.

Pet Blankets

Moving blankets provide a perfect replacement or alternative option for a pet blanket. Their comfort and thickness provides warmth and support to animals of all types and sizes in the home, and can be used on furniture as a pet blanket if you just can’t get your dog off the sofa.

Protecting Floors

Many people invest a great deal of time, effort and money into installing attractive flooring in their homes, whether that is expensive hardwood or plush carpets. Moving blankets can be used as rugs to help protect key areas of flooring, particularly those areas which are subject to constant or rigorous use on regular basis.

At the Beach

An easy alternative to a towel on that sandy beach is a moving blanket. Although they may not be the ideal choice for towelling dry after a quick swim in the sea, they do provide an excellent rug and protection from the sand that seems to get everywhere on any beach trip.

For Exercise

Many people have taken up yoga in their homes or have bought expensive exercise equipment such as treadmills and exercise bikes. Such activities can take a toll on and damage flooring, and so moving blankets provide excellent protection between equipment and the floor, as well as a comfortable surface for floor exercises.

Wiping up Spills

Moving blankets can be an excellent choice for wiping up spills, especially without causing damage to more delicate towels and tea towels. Moving blankets can therefore be very useful for mopping spills in more demanding areas, such as when working on a car or other machinery, or tough to remove fluids.

Loft Insulation

Ideally, every loft should be insulated with professional grade insulation materials in order to get the most out of a property in terms of fuel efficiency. However, moving blankets can either add some insulation at a pinch or be used to enhance the insulation that is already there to help keep a property warm.

Padding for Toys or Furniture

Padding could also be useful for a number of different household items such as some furniture, or even soft toys that needs refilling. Anywhere where extra padding is needed can benefit from a repurposed moving blanket.

Comfortable Cushion

Finally, moving blankets can make a very comfortable cushion or back support. Because they can be folded in multiple ways, it is relatively easy to fold them in such a way that they will easily mould to the person using them, providing comfort, support and warmth throughout the year.

It is so easy to think of household objects as only useful for the purpose for which they have been designed. However, moving blankets, as with so many items, can be repurposed for a number of roles within any household, and this article may even have given you some ideas of how moving blankets could be used.
